Business is about making money and achieving a vision … for YOUR business. BIG PICTURE thinking is about how we can make money for others, and help them to achieve their vision. “But why would I want to do this?” I hear you ask. Because if we “grow the pie” there will be abundance for all.

The “pie” analogy comes from the following story. If you imagine the market, or potential customers, as a pie, we can all attack the pie in the hope that we get enough to eat by beating others to it, and having a feeding frenzy to eat as much as we can quickly as the pie is so small. In the early stages of a developing market the pie is indeed very small. On the other hand imagine if the pie was so big that we could share the pie with others in an orderly fashion. That is BIG PICTURE thinking. So how can we grow the pie?

Put your hands up to your eyes and place one on either side to form a tunnel to look through. Make it as small as you can like blinkers they place on a horse to stop them being spooked by things around them. Now take your hands away and move your eyes to see many more things around you. Now move your head from side to side and up and down. That’s how we should be approaching the Laughter Business. Blinkers off!

Here are some tips on how to do some BIG PICTURE things.

  1. Think globally. Social media is an international network that anyone can influence. Write a Blog and post it. As mentioned at our Annual Conference recently, if we’re not telling the world about Laughter Yoga others (less informed) will.
  2. Think nationally. Have a monthly phone or Skype meeting where you can share ideas and contacts. Many organizations are national so it’s easier to refer others to them instead of trying to get to that company in person. This is especially the case in countries as big as Australia or America for example.
  3. Think locally. Make friends with local people who you can refer into your local market. You should be working on the idea that you have so much work that you say to a client “No I’m busy on that day but I’m sure that I can get someone else to help you.” Tell that person you refer that they owe you a job.
  4. Develop networks. Start a forum group preferably face to face. Have a clear intention of coming together once a month for a coffee or wine to share business ideas and clients. Keep a list of referrals.
  5. Run a laughter club. The more clubs that we have the bigger our market footprint is. If people miss a night at your club, let them know where another club on another night is located. If we all did this I’m sure that our classes would be full. People who attend a club are often working so go back to their work and tell them about you.
